Through Great Science for Girls, and the support of MCCOY, after-school centers across the country will be able to provide a learning environment for girls that includes opportunities for leadership and engagement with fun, hands-on, inquiry-based science experiences. During the five-year project period, GSG has the potential to impact many Indianapolis-area after-school centers, youth workers, and, of course, girls. Given the large number of under-represented low and moderate-income youth who attend after-school programs ( Halpern, 2002 ) , girls reached will be from the population that traditionally has been most excluded from the STEM pipeline.
