PRESS RELEASE: MCCOY Seeks Proposals from Organizations Supporting Positive Outcomes for Youth

5/27/2009

Your Organization Can Play a Key Role in Central Indiana's Summit for Student Success

Indianapolis, IN - Does your agency offer opportunities for young people to develop the skills necessary for learning, leading, thriving, connecting or working? Are you involved in a successful partnership or initiative achieving positive outcomes for youth? Do you utilize an approach you believe to be cutting-edge or "best practice"? If so, consider sharing your experience and insight with community and business leaders at Central Indiana's Summit for Student Success: Bringing the Community Together to Tackle the Dropout Challenge, which will be held at Hilbert Circle Theatre in downtown Indianapolis on Monday, August 10, 2009.

MCCOY and its planning partners are seeking proposals from potential presenters who can provide informative, inspirational and thought-provoking examples of high-quality programs, partnerships, initiatives and practices that contribute to a supportive environment and positive outcomes for youth and families. Applications are due on June 12, 2009 by 5:00pm. Interested individuals can access the RFP, application and more information about the Summit online at www.mccoyouth.org.

Central Indiana's high dropout rate is a significant symptom of a complicated problem that can only be solved through a community-wide effort to increase the odds of success for local youth. The Summit, sponsored by America's Promise Alliance, offers the community a chance to build partnerships, gain commitment and adopt an actionable plan for creating an environment full of opportunities for youth to thrive, learn, engage and contribute.

Summit participants will represent the full spectrum of community stakeholders and include parents, young people, business and government leaders, law enforcement, youth development organizations, and educational institutions. "We all say we want young people to do well. It's time for all sectors of our community to step forward and put those words into actions," says John Brandon, President of MCCOY.

MCCOY's planning partners for Central Indiana's Summit for Student Success include: United Way of Central Indiana, Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce (Common Goal), American Academy of Pediatrics, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana, Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis, Central Indiana Community Foundation, Indiana Afterschool Network, Indiana Partnership Center, Indiana State Farm, Indianapolis Public Schools, Indianapolis Urban League, IU School of Social Work, IUPUI Office of External Affairs, JCC Indianapolis, Lumina Foundation for Education, and NetLiteracy.
