yVote!

So far this yVote! semester, Clerk White and her staff have visited several Marion County high schools - Lutheran, Beech Grove, Northwest, Lawrence Central to name a few - to prepare students for a lifetime of voting. They learn more about the voting process, but can also register to vote and participate in a mock election using the county's voting equipment. There's still time to register your school before the April 9 deadline. Call Patrick at 327-2050 or send him an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Be election ready! New precincts and districts for primary election

Mayor Ballard changed precinct boundaries in 2011, and most Marion County voters are impacted by the modifications. Plus, the state legislature adopted new Congressional and legislative district boundaries after the 2010 census and those changes are in effect beginning this year. Be election ready! Check out the Voter Information Portal - www.indy.gov/VIP - to find out your new precinct and who represents you. Polling locations will be available after the mayor's office certifies the list to the Election Board office in early April.

Statewide voter registration deadline: Monday, April 9

The statewide voter registration deadline for the May 8 primary election is Monday, April 9. If you are new to Marion County or recently moved or changed your name, you can download a form at www.indy.gov/voter or register online using the Secretary of State's website - www.indianavoters.com.

Friends of democracy needed: Work the polls on Tues., May 8

More than 3,000 Election Day workers are needed to run a successful election in Marion County. Be a friend of democracy and sign up to work the polls on Tuesday, May 8. You must be a registered voter and live in Marion County - but we also like student poll workers, too! If you are 16 or 17 years-old, have a 3.0 GPA and permission from your school and parent/guardian, we'd love to have you on board. Call us at 327-VOTE, send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or register online.

Absentee Voting

Vote-by-mail applications are being accepted now through Monday, April 30. You can download a form on our website - www.indy.gov/election - or call our office at 327-VOTE to have one mailed to you. You must have a reason to vote-by-mail, but you do not need to provide a copy of your ID.

The Election Board also sends out bi-partisan teams, or a traveling board, to nursing homes and other locations where a vote might be confined due to illness or injury. Call our office at 327-VOTE to learn more about this option.

Early, in-person voting begins Monday, April 9 in the Clerk's office. We're located on the first floor of the west wing of the City-County Building in room W122. You do not need a reason to vote early in-person, but you do need to present a valid photo ID issued by the state of Indiana or federal government. Voting hours are 8am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and weekend hours will be confirmed at the next Election Board meeting - so stay tuned for an update!
