Although formal education is essential, learning shouldn't have to stop when the school bell rings. The links to the right are resources that offer guidance in structuring the time youth spend outside of school.

State and local organizations making a difference:

• The Indiana Afterschool Network is a statewide network of after-school providers dedicated to advancing the quality of after- and out-of-school time for Hoosier youth.

• Each year the national Lights On After School event celebrates and honors the accomplishments of programs that continue learning and development during after-school hours. The 2008 Lights On After School event in Indianapolis will take place October 16 from 3 to 5:30 pm at Garfield Park.  To be a part of the event, download any of the following documents: event information sheet; booth space reservation form; registration forms for student performances and visual arts displays; student registration form; vendor registration form; and the Lights On coloring worksheet.

National after & out-of-school resources:

• The AfterSchool Professional Network offers a national calendar of events, a directory of products and services and a regular newsletter of valuable information for after-school professionals.

• The Afterschool Alliance serves as a hub for research, networking and advocacy within the after-school community. As the sponsors of the Lights On Afterschool event, the Alliance additionally concentrates on raising the profile and accessibility of programs that serve youth beyond traditional school hours.
