Learning Network

MCCOY's Learning Network provides professional development opportunities to enhance the knowledge and abilities of the local youth services community. Workshops and trainings provide participants with new insights as well as opportunities to share their own knowledge and experiences. The following is a listing of the low-cost workshops and trainings that will be offered in 2011.

Reframing Conflict: June 16, 2011

Helps participants consider an approach in which adults support youth in solving their own conflicts and problems.

PEER INTERACTION:

Building Community: July 21, 2011

This lively workshop introduces participants to numerous community-building and relationship-building activities.

Stewards of Children:  July 26, 2011

Cooperative Learning: August 18, 2011

Cooperative learning techniques not only make for powerful learning environments; they also can make the youth worker's job easier. This workshop addresses youths' interaction in groups. Participants will experience and leave with effective ways to manage small group experiences.

YOUTH ENGAGEMENT:

Voice & Choice: September 15, 2011

Providing young people with authentic, meaningful choices is a hallmark of truly engaging environments. This workshop is focused on providing meaningful choice within activities and voice within the youth program itself.

Planning and Reflection: October 13, 2011

The planning and relfection process, central to the high/scope approach for every age, can turn a fun activity into a powerful learning experience! Participants learn how to support youth in planning, implementing, and evaluating activities and projects.

Provider Council:

4th Wednesday of Each Month: 8:15 - 10 a.m. (No meeting in December)

Each meeting features an interactive networking activity encouraging everyone to share best practices, new ideas and needs for your organization and/or programs. Meetings also feature guest presenters who share details about their specifc programs and services. You will also have an opportunity to make announcement about your organizations or programs so feel free to bring handouts.
