Positive youth development practice is at the core of MCCOY's advocacy efforts at the local, state and national levels. Through partnerships with advocacy organizations, service providers, youth and the community, MCCOY is working to ensure that youth have a voice in policy decisions that affect them.
MCCOY's priority issues include:
- Youth Drop-out Prevention - the Student Success Initiative is working to ensure that school and state policies are aligned with best practices to help students graduate and succeed.
- Youth Program Quality Assessment (YPQA) - through YPQA, MCCOY advocates that youth programs adhere to quality and best practice standards.
- Youth Worker Professional Development - MCCOY advocates for educational standards and continuing education be made available for all professionals working with youth.
- Early Intervention and Prevention (EIP) - the EIP Initiative strives to eliminate and prevent child abuse, neglect and delinquency through comprehensive community efforts that coordinate, build capacity, and advocate for high-quality early intervention and prevention services in Marion County.
- Youth Engagement - MCCOY believes that youth should be empowered to voice their opinions about and be part of the decisions that affect them. MCCOY has created the Youth Advocacy Council to give youth a voice and to empower them to make change.
